Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a dare for long-term couples who enjoy the horror genre: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its online premiere via Hulu. At first glance, it could look like typical body horror, but beneath Together exists a intense examination about the ways we decide to love one another.

A Debut Feature Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for a decade. Having wed in reality in 2017, the actors bring a particular energy to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The narrative commences when Millie and Tim transition from the big city to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s primarily where the tropes conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the two discover an underground cave. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a methodically building of scares, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, gross (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes during something disturbing). Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his floundering music career inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and removed from his support system. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision is that he never makes Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie face the kind of problems that arise in any relationship after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these anxieties of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Conversely, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply turn to your significant other and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu at present.
